Why We Built Alo Nutrition the Way We Did

So we built something different. At Alo, you set your own schedule. Want to see clients three long days and have two weekdays off? Go for it. We also handle the parts a lot of RDs never wanted to deal with in the first place — insurance, billing, referrals — so you can focus on the actual work of showing up for your clients and then be done for the day. No dragging admin stress home with you.

You’re not doing this solo, either. We’ve got a running group chat for clinical questions and case support when you need a second brain — and a separate “breakroom” chat for the random, off-topic stuff you’d normally catch in a hallway conversation. Because working with this population is heavy enough without also feeling isolated.

We take the work seriously. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. If that sounds like your kind of team, here’s what we offer.

What We’re Looking For

Here’s the truth about this job: it’s about the food, and it’s not about the food. As a dietitian working with eating disorders, you’ll spend a lot of your time on things that have very little to do with what’s on the plate. If that paradox makes sense to you already, you’re probably a good fit.

You do need to be a Registered Dietitian, licensed to practice in Missouri & Illinois. Beyond that, here’s what actually matters to us:

You lead with weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned care.

This is the one non-negotiable. You don’t need to walk in with an eating disorder specialty already — we’re genuinely happy to hear from RDs with backgrounds in GI, autoimmune conditions, or other areas, as long as you already practice from a weight-inclusive lens. We’ll teach you the eating-disorder-specific pieces. What we can’t teach is unlearning diet culture on the job.

You have some experience living real life.

We’re not going to pretend a checklist of years of experience tells us much. What matters more: have you grocery shopped on a budget? Cooked for yourself on a bad week, or figured out what to eat when things fell apart? If you’re guiding someone else through their real, messy relationship with food, it helps if you’ve had one of your own — lived experience teaches things a textbook never will.

You show up like a real human, even on a screen.

A surprising amount of this job happens over telehealth, which means clients need to actually see you — your face, your presence, the fact that you’re a person in a room, not a voice with a webcam angle that shows your eyebrows. If you’re comfortable being genuinely present on camera, that matters more to us than it might seem.
