Since 1999 Sarah has been knee deep in the field of nutrition therapy for eating disorders recovery. However, she had a few years of non-ED work before then. Sarah worked in the hospitals, nursing homes, gyms etc. It was not until Sarah started working at an eating disorders treatment center in 1999 that she found her fit. Since then she has been a tireless advocate not only for client’s pursuit of balanced nutrition but she has been an advocate for dietitians wanting to learn more about this field.
St Louis dietitian, Sarah Gleason, will help you push back against the messaging about the thin ideal, diet culture and weight bias. She will challenge your ideas and thoughts about food and body that are perpetuated by the world we live in. When working with Sarah the messaging surrounding your eating disorder behaviors will be discussed and challenged.
In 2008 Sarah opened the doors to her first private practice office. In the following years she evolved from being a single dietitian practice as ‘Sarah the Dietitian’ to ‘Gray Area Nutrition’ where she hired four dietitians during the first 18 months of Covid. Now she has merged with Lori Adams to form Alo Nutrition. Sarah is excited to see what the next chapter of client advocacy and dietitian trainings looks like.
Recovery is possible. Finding balanced eating is possible. Eating with ease is possible.
The work is not easy, fast or without a few emotions and recovery can happen.
Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian- Supervisor (CEDS-C).
Being a CEDS-C means I have advanced expertise and proficiency in the field of eating disorders. I was the second dietitian in the Midwest to earn the credential. A CEDS credential will promise that the knowledge base of the dietitian is extensive, focused and robust in the realm of eating disorder disorders. A person with a CEDS has routine education fine-tuning their nutrition education skills for eating disorder recovery as well as having access to education into the medical and therapy side of recovery. Being a CEDS-C indicates a dietitian has shown such a strong proficiency in this field they are able to offer supervision, also known as mentorship, to other dietitians or therapists who want to learn more about eating disorders recovery.
When searching for the right dietitian, you don't need to work with a dietitian who has a CEDS. There are highly qualified dietitians without this credential so don't dismiss a possible team member without asking pointed, direct questions about their expertise in eating disorders nutrition recovery. Not all dietitians are the same and the best person for you may take some time to find. Reach out and ask questions.
