St Louis dietitian Lori Adams has always had a passion for food and athletics. She pursued both by earning a scholarship to play Division 1 soccer while completing her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics followed by her Dietetic Internship at St Louis University.
Over the years Lori gained experience in a variety of clinical and community settings and began her outpatient nutrition practice in 2008. In 2012 Lori returned to McCallum Place and had the opportunity to develop the Victory Program, the only program in the country designed to treat elite athletes with eating disorders. She worked alongside multiple industry leading experts and gained invaluable experience treating eating disorders in the sport culture.
Nutrition Fit for You was founded in 2017 as an outpatient practice that promotes a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach to nutrition counseling. It has since grown into a thriving practice with a team of dietitians specializing in both eating disorders and sports nutrition counseling.
As an advocate for eating disorder awareness and education, she volunteers time as the secretary for the International Association for Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) St Louis chapter, is a board member and speaker for the MO Eating Disorder Association (MOEDA), is a contributing expert to the Voice in Sport (VIS) community and is a preceptor for local dietetic internships. Lori is an iaedp Approved Supervisor and provides supervision to dietitians, specifically related to the intersect of eating disorders and sports.
Lori believes that recovery from an eating disorder is possible. There is no right or wrong way to recover and it will be a different journey for each person. She also believes that eating disorder recovery and competitive athletics can co-exist. Using Intuitive Eating principles and the HAES approach, Lori supports clients to find a balance between food & exercise, reject diet culture & body ‘ideals’ and discover self-acceptance for sustainable health and well-being.
In her spare time, Lori enjoys traveling across the country and exploring National Parks with her husband and 2 bonus kids. Living an active lifestyle, she enjoys hiking, biking, water sports and skiing. She is also a self-proclaimed foodie who loves trying new foods and cooking for friends and family.
